1976 in Athens, Georgia, gegründet, zog es die B-52's schnell nach New York und sie wurden Teil der Szene rund um's CBGB's. "Rock Lobster" ist einer ihrer größten Hits überhaupt, für mich steht er nur knapp hinter "Planet Claire".

Mit 6:51 min eine ziemlich lange Single, deren treibendes Riff vom Bass und der Hammondorgel dominiert werden. Nicht nur, dass Fred Schneider so ziemlich alle Fischsorten aufzählt, die so "vorbeikommen" (There comes a stingray, jellyfish, dogfish, catfish, piranha, ), sie werden alle von Cindy Wilson und Kate Pierson auch imitiert: "lalalala", "jahjahjah", "mrrmrrrmrrr", "kreisch!",...
Wohl das härteste Stück Popmusik ever.

Trotz ihrer zahlreicher Auftritte im CBGB's und ihrem letzten, angepunktem Album "Radio Ethiopia", Patti wird zwar fest zum New Yorker Punkzirkel gezählt, ihre Musik bleibt jedoch eigenständig und nicht eindeutig Punk. Hymnisch, mit Chören und Orgel und immer sehr eindringlich, wie auf "Till Victory", sehr elegisch und indianisch auf "Ghost Dance", einem vertontem Gedicht. Das von Bruce Springsteen geschriebene "Because The Night" ist ein melancholischer Lovesong, der von Pattis fragiler Stimme lebt. Rotzige Rocker sind "Space Monkey" und "Rock'n'Roll Nigger".
